About Jama Masjid

Jama Masjid

The Jama Masjid is largest Nawabi Masjid in Lucknow located in south-western side of Chhota Imambara in Hussainabad The Jama Masjid stands to the south-east of the Chhota Imambara. The beauty of the arched entrance is further enhanced with exquisite stucco. The structure of the mosque rises from a platform with three garlic-shaped domes with inverted lotuses on top displaying a fusion of Indo-Islamic architecture. The ceilings are embellished with floral motifs. Two slim minarets hug either side of the arched entrance from which the façade extends to six-storeyed minarets capped by cupolas in the corners of the façade. Spread over 4,950 sq meters, the construction of this mosque was started by Nawab Mohammad Ali Shah. It has a spacious courtyard and three compartments of prayer halls. The niches are decorated with inscriptions similar to illuminated manuscripts from Shia religious scriptures by Sayyid Kazim Shah Rizvi of Qum (Iran).
